what we believe

STATEMENT OF FAITH

The Bible

The Bible, consisting of both Old and New Testaments, is the inspired (2 Pet. 1:20-21), only infallible, authoritative Word of God. It is the supreme and final authority for faith and practice (2 Tim 3:16)

God

There is one God (Deut. 6:4, Is. 45:5-7), eternally existing in three Persons- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who are of one substance and equal in power and glory (2 Cor 13:14).

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ, the second Person of the Trinity, was both fully man (Phil. 2:5-8) and fully God (Col. 1:15-16, Col. 2:9). We believe in His virgin birth (Isa 7:14), in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His substitutionary and atoning death through His shed blood (1 Pet. 2:24), in His bodily resurrection (1 Cor. 15:3-4,20-23), in His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19), and in His future personal return in power and glory (1 Thess 4:16-18, Rev 19:16-20:6).

Mankind

Man was created in the image of God (Gen 1:26-27), sinned (Rom 3:23), and thereby incurred both physical and spiritual death, which is separation from God (Rom 6:23, Eph 2:1-3).

Salvation

The forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life is a miraculous work of God and is received by grace alone through faith alone (Eph 2:8-9, Titus 3:5).  All who repent (turn from their sin) and trust in Jesus’ atoning death on the cross and victorious resurrection are born again by the Holy Spirit and thereby become the children of God, possessing eternal life (Jn 1:12-13; John 3:5–7Rom 10:9–10).

*The above Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Big Canyon’s doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Board of Directors is our final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application. We will hold to a normal, literal interpretation of Scripture.
